December 2, 2012 -- A little bit of this and that

Today had a little bit of everything in it :)  Including some American food!  We were kept busy taking care of the babies this morning while Stephanie and Mike (adopting family) make some amazing pizza's for everyone here, including all the kids in the orphanage!  They were busy little bees this morning creating a delicious lunch!  They also made a dessert, which I cannot remember the name of it.  But, it was pizza dough that was fried and had butter and powdered sugar on it.  It-was-heaven.

Below are some pictures of Grayson playing today.  He is still teething a lot and slobbering everywhere.  He is also getting better at "tummy time".  He loves to smile of course and giggle.  He is such a flirt! :)

So I had the oddest situation happen today.  There are always people coming to the orphanage to bring gifts and visit the children here.  Today was a fun day to play outside as it was very sunny and nice out.   I took Grayson outside to get some fresh air and there were 2 college age girls walking around.  They approached me and began talking in their best English to me :)  They were asking how old I was, where I was from, and who the baby belonged to.  They were very nice to talk to, but I have to admit I was very nervous trying to carry on a conversation with limited words.  They ended the conversation by saying, "you.is.beautiful." -- "May we take picture with you?"  I was really caught off guard as I sat there in my jeans and t-shirt.  My hair  in a pony tail and little makeup on?  I said sure and they took a picture with Grayson and I.  Now I was told there might be some people here that want to take a picture with us since we are "Americans" but I hadn't had that happen until today.  Now I do not tell this story in a "boastful" way, but just wanted to remember the little things that have happened here and the encounters with people I have experienced.

I also asked one of the girls here how long she has been at the orphanage.  She replied, "12 years".  I said, "Wow - that's a long time".  She said, "yes. I was 2 when come here.  But I like it here.  This is my family".  Now although I am happy that she is so upbeat and truly seems happy here, but it broke my heart inside.  If you are reading this, please consider adopting a child somewhere.  There are so many kids that will never know what a family is like.

Love,
Lindsay & Grayson

  1. Hey Lindsay! I thought about you on Thanksgiving...remembering that just a year ago I was eating my Thanksgiving dinner with M & R in Ethiopia. God will have you home at just the right time! I am praying that it is before Christmas though...I know a little bit of how you feel right now. Hang in there! What an amazing opportunity you have to love on all of those sweet babies & children! I love reading the blog and your updates!

    Praying hard!!!
