So today was probably one of my most favorite days here in Taiwan! We played with Grayson all morning as he is giggling, smiling, and telling us stories :) We also got to skype with Lindsay's family, which was really fun.....and really hard to hear everyone talking at the same time! It was fun to show them Grayson LIVE!..except he fell asleep in the middle of it.
We had our first meeting with the social worker. She interviewed us in Chinese. Ted translated for us. There is nothing more awkward than listening to Chinese 90 percent of the interview and having no idea what they are saying :) But she was very, very nice and I heard she works very fast on cases - so that was good to hear! She mostly asked us things that are in our home study, and questions like why we chose adoption and some harder questions. It all went very smooth. She went to see Grayson in his room and we all took some pics together. Of course, Grayson was a ham! Now she will take her info and write us another home-study that will be sent to the judge.
Ted also let us run around the town with him yesterday as he did errands. They even came running out of the orphanage with Grayson and said we could take him along :) Our first family trip! We went to the nearest town called Lo-Tung. We saw the courthouse today, drove up into the mountains and saw some tea fields (amazing!). The view was awesome from the mountains! We went to their "walmart" and Ted picked up some things and mom bought a Pepsi which was sooooo totally flat, but she didn't care at that point :) We also went to Ted's Christian book store here and bought 2 things. One is a kids book for Grayson and it's in chinese and english. The town was amazing -- nothing like a really pictured at all. Their rules are pretty much to drive wherever you want on either side of the street and there are a zillion mo-peds flying everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!! They just weave in and out of traffic and no one really stops at intersections. I thought mom was going to pee her pants! She said Ted drives like my dad :) :)
We also picked up a young boy from the train station, which we will be riding on tomorrow to go sight-seeing! We are going to a place thats like the grand canyon, but its all smooth marble because the sand blows across it, which smooths it out. I have heard its beautiful and can't wait!!
We also went to our nightly devotions, which are in chinese. It's soooo hard to not fall asleep because it's really 6 in the morning at home and we are having trouble adjusting to the time change. For instance, its 4am here and I am wide awake :). I guess I will have a few months to get it under control :) Overall, I love it here!!
Mom has more pics on her camera as she is the "official photographer" so I will get some of her pics tomorrow to pass along :)
well, I better get off and go back to bed!
Talk with you all soon!
~Matt, Lindsay, and Grayson!
